COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (News4Utah) A Sandy man was arrested for DUI after causing three-car crash in Cottonwood Heights and having almost four times the legal alcohol limit in his system.

Sgt. Thomas Daugherty, Cottonwood Heights Police Department, said the crash happened at 5:30 p.m. Saturday night when 57-year-old Stanley Gurule was in the drive thru of a McDonalds at 7024 S Highland Drive and for some unknown reason he accelerated into the car in front of him.

“He pushed that car right over the curb and onto Highland Drive where they were hit by another car,” Daugherty said. “The suspect then traveled across 6-7 lanes of traffic, hit a sign and landed on a 3-foot cement wall in a parking lot.”

Daugherty said Gurule was given a sobriety test at the scene of the crash where he registered a .318 blood-alcohol content. He was checked out medically before being taken to the Salt Lake City Jail for class A misdemeanor DUI with serious bodily injury by negligent Operation.

Gurule has a previous DUI conviction in 2011.

No one else was seriously injured.
