SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) The generosity of Utahns to the rescue for kids heading back-to-school who cannot afford what they need. And that need is great.
Long lines stretched through the doors at the Salt Lake Mission’s third annual back-to-school giveaway on Saturday. More than nine-hundred kids received free backpacks, supplies, clothing, even haircuts and medical checks.
“Many families are struggling already with the slow economy and just trying to make ends meet, especially single moms with kids,” said Reverend Joe Vazquez. “The clothing is free, the haircuts are free, the school supplies are free. At a time of year where they need help the most, the mission is stepping in to help.”
The Mission also provided food for more than three-thousand people Saturday. The Mission relies entirely on donations.
