Governor Gary Herbert has a bill on his desk that would lower the legal blood alcohol limit in Utah.
Glen Warchol, managing editor at Salt Lake Magazine, and Michele Corigliano, executive director of the Salt Lake Area Restaurant Association talk about the possible impact of this legislation.
House bill 155 would lower the blood alcohol limit from .08 percent to .05 percent. It would become lowest in the country.
Supporters of the bill say it’s about the public safety and cutting down on injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers.
Opponents of the bill say it is bad for Utah businesses and it sends a message to the world that Utah is not a fun place to visit or hold conventions.
