SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – The airport can be hectic and loud. For children on the Autism spectrum a local organization teamed up with the Salt Lake International Airport and Delta Airlines to take kids on their first flight without ever leaving the ground.
Flying can be overwhelming and uncomfortable experience with new situations and unfamiliar surroundings. The “Taking Flight for Autism,” program is designed to acclimate children to the airport environment and practice procedures to help them become more comfortable when traveling.
During the event airport personnel will demonstrate the process for flight check-in, security, screening and boarding a Delta Air Lines aircraft.
A full flight crew will simulate a flight as families experience the motions of air travel.
Approximately 29 families and 105 participants registered for the event Saturday.
