Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office unveils new mascot

Local News

SANDY (News4Utah) – The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department introduced their newest officer today at the Safe Kids Fair in Sandy.

Sheriff Rosie Rivera introduced the department’s new mascot, nicknamed Sergeant Lightning. The mascot was named by students at the South Valley School in West Jordan.

The Sheriff’s Office ponied up the money so Sergeant Lightning can appear at community events, entertaining kids along with his partner, Sergeant Siren, from the Salt Lake Unified Police Department.

“This is another fantastic tool for us to really reach out and connect with the community,” Officer Skyler Talbot told News4Utah. “Unfortunately, a lot of law enforcement interactions with our citizens aren’t always positive ones, so we’re always looking for new and inventive ways to interact with the community.”
