Danny Walz was appointed to the position last month. Lara Fritts actually approached him about the position two different times, and after giving it more thought, he decided it was the right move.
He came from being the RDA director of Midvale City since 2004. His career began at SLC’s RDA as an intern, then became a research analyst, project coordinator, and then a senior project manager. His past work with the RDA includes the Gallivan Center Marriott project, and the redevelopment of Pugsley Street in West Capitol Hill.
Not only does he have hands-on development experience, he feel my work with the Utah Redevelopment Association and knowledge of state-wide RDA legislation will benefit the city as well.
The short term focus is on finalizing restricting issues, budget, processes, procedures. Long term goals are to re-establish the RDA’s vision and strategic planning.
Project work will include:
- Creating new project areas in the city
- The Station Center project
- Working with the Mayor and City Council on their priorities for affordable housing
Walz’ staff gives him a hard time because he’s am a huge Laker’s and Dodger’s fan – being from Southern California. He did get a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Utah – so he also roots for the Utes.
He love the outdoors and hopes to get his Jeep out more.
