Salt Lake City working to help protect historic artifacts

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) Salt Lake City is participating in a big grant opportunity right now that could help protect some of the city’s historic artifacts, and it needs your help to get on that grant.

To talk about that grant and how you can help, City Marketing and Research Manager Annie Davis and Ori Media Founder, Michael Ori joined Good Morning Utah with Brian Carlson.

This is an opportunity for SLC to receive up to $150,000 in grant funding for historic preservation. Grant is through National Trust for Historic Preservation, Main Street America, and American Express.

There is a total of $2-million dollar that will be distributed so several cities will win.

We need the public’s help to win – this all depends on public votes. Cities with the most votes at the end of the campaign win.

Ori Media is under contract to purchase the iconic Utah Pickle Company building in the Granary District (one of just two areas in Utah to receive a Main Street America Designation).

If SLC wins, funds will go towards restoration and renovation of the Utah Pickle Co. building along with two others in the immediate vicinity.

The community-focused project will include:

Media production studio

Multiple event spaces

Community gardens

Office space for local artists and entrepreneurs

So, we’re asking people to #PICKTHEPICKLE

This project will have a major footprint in the “up and coming” Granary District. This will be one more project that will elevate the Granary District, Central Ninth neighborhood and create much-needed outdoor, office, and flex space to the west side of SLC.

Anyone and everyone is encouraged to help make this vision a reality. People can sign up and vote at:

You can cast up to 5 votes every day (and yes, they can all be for SLC) from now until Oct. 31st. The cities with the most votes at the end of this campaign will receive up to $150,000.
