SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – The Salt Lake City Board of Education approved several pay and staffing increases as part of the 2019-2020 budget.

On Thursday, the board approved increasing funding to support one full-time counselor at each of the district’s elementary schools and support an additional half-time counselor at Clayton Middle School.

A pay increase to $15 an hour for instructional paraprofessionals who work with students at an institutional capacity, and the addition of 4.5 assistant principal and 2.4 literacy coaches at elementary schools.

“I am thrilled by the Board’s vote last night to support these measures. This year, our Board of Education prioritized social and emotional learning (SEL) for our students, and these changes show our Board’s commitment to continuing to support our students and our employees” said Dr. Lexi Cunningham, superintendent for SLCSD.
