SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- A 66-year-old daycare employee in Salt Lake City is facing child abuse charges after police records say she admitted to “slamming [a] child down on the bathroom floor, feet first”.

Records say that child was taken to Primary Children’s and was diagnosed with two broken legs.

The worker has been identified as Elvira Ortega. Police say Ortega was watching the child at her home when the incident happened.

Monday she was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on child abuse charges. Police say she told them she would “rather be deported than go to jail”.
