SALEM, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Salem man was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl seven years ago.

According to charging documents, Charles Frederick Childress, 40, was sentenced Tuesday in 4th District Court to 1 to 15 years for second-degree felony sexual abuse of a child and 1 year for misdemeanor lewdness involving a child. Both sentences will be carried out at the Utah State Prison.

Document state the incident happened in May 2012 when Childress said he was having a talk with the girl in a bedroom when he exposed himself to her, then asked her to touch him inappropriately.

A background check shows Childress was convicted of domestic-related criminal mischief in 2008. No other criminal history was found in Utah.
