ROY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – The stage is set for a Roy High School Marching Band member. Jadyn Christensen has been selected as one of 125 marching band students from across the United States to perform in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Christensen was recognized Monday morning with an honorary All-American Marching Band jacket.
The U.S. Army All-American Band performs each year at halftime during the nationally broadcasted bowl game.
Band members are chosen not just because they excel musically, but because they are mentally and physically agile, they know the importance of teamwork, and they are able to adapt to challenging situations, similar to U.S. Army Soldiers.
“Integrity, honor, all of those,” said Jadyn Christensen, as he pointed to the Army banners behind him. “I guess without even realizing it, I put those into my character. I’ve had fantastic parents growing up and they taught me great values like that.”
Christensen, who has played the trumpet for seven years, was presented his honorary jacket in front of his band members, family and friends.
“It’s a great honor,” Jeff Christensen, Jadyn’s father said. “My son is a hard-working young man. He is honest and brave and that really embodies what the U.S. Army American games is all about.”
The 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl takes place Saturday, January 6, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.
