RMP blames faulty circuit breaker for widespread outage

SALT LAKE CITY (News4utah) — A circuit breaker that did not operate correctly at the Oquirrh substation was the cause of a large power outage, Rocky Mountain Power says. 

The outage affected about 57,000 customers in the Salt Lake City for nearly two hours Monday. The Oquirrh substation is located at 6000 West Old Bingham Hwy (10200 South).

The outage began at 12:17 p.m. and was fully restored just before 2 p.m.  It affected seven substations in the southwest Salt Lake Valley.

Further investigation is underway to more completely understand the details of this outage.

Rocky Mountain Power says it appreciates the patience of their customers during power outages.
