SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – A new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says veteran unemployment is up despite the economic boom happening in the beehive state.

While the state currently holds a 3.2 percent rate of job growth and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation at 3.1 percent, veterans are experiencing a 4.6 percent unemployment rate for 2018. Nationally, veteran unemployment is currently at 3.5 percent.

The Department of Workforce Services says 2,200 businesses have pledged to be a “Utah Patriot Partner,” which encourages companies to hire veterans as a first choice.

DWFS also says it will hold a Veteran Job Fair at the Mountain American Expo Center in Sandy on Tuesday, March 26.
