UTAH (ABC4 News) – Congressman Chris Stewart is asking the House of Representatives to take up a bill that would grant protections to newborns who survive abortion.

Rep. Stewart presented his request at the House on Thursday. The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act ensures that any infant born alive after a failed or attempted abortion receives the same protection of law as any newborn.

It would also penalize doctors who allow infants to die or intentionally kill a newborn.

In a statement the congressman said:

“This is the 19th time that House Democrats have rejected our call to save children born alive. It is unbelievable to me that there are people in this country who say that you can take a baby moments before they are born, or in the case of a botched abortion, take the life of a baby who has just been born.”
