The 150th anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike and completion of the Transcontinental Railroad is May 10th. In honor of the event, Rep. Rob Bishop spoke about the completion on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
Rep. Bishop introduced legislation to designate the Golden Spike National Historical Park in time for the 150th celebration of the driving of the final spike of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10th, 1869. The bill establishes a network of sites related to the history, construction, and legacy of the Transcontinental Railroad as a program of the National Park Service.
In March of 2019, President Trump signed the legislation into law.
