SANPETE COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) – New developments have emerged regarding a child abduction and Amber Alert case from December 2017.
The Sanpete County Deputy Attorney announced new charges against John Coltharp, Samuel Shaffer and Shaffer’s father.
Both men claim to be leaders in a self-proclaimed religious group called the Knights of the Crystal Blade. Coltharp is the alleged leader while Shaffer is second in command.
Coltharp is now facing child bigamy charges while Samuel Shaffer faces conspiracy to commit bigamy and James Shaffer, Samuel’s father, faces a charge of obstruction of justice.
These charges stem from the kidnapping of Coltharp’s young children.
