Red Cross experiencing emergency need for blood

Local News
The American Red Cross continues to have an emergency need for blood and platelet donors of all blood types. Give now and help save lives.

Thousands of people have responded to the emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the Red Cross in early July, but there continues to be a critical summer blood shortage. The Red Cross continues to recover from a 61,000-donation shortfall in May and June, which prompted the emergency call for donations.

The Red Cross’ Bloodmobile stopped by the Good4Utah studios Friday and collected nearly 30 units of blood.

It is important the Red Cross has a sufficient blood supply on hand to meet the needs of patients every day and to be prepared for emergencies that require significant volumes of donated blood products.

The Red Cross says summer blood shortages are not uncommon, but they can be overcome when generous volunteers roll up their sleeves to restock the shelves.

Donations are urgently needed now from new and current donors to fully meet the needs of hospital patients in the coming days and weeks. To make an appointment today by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
