For the first time ever, seven nationally significant artifacts from the Transcontinental Railroad were on display together in one place, the Utah State Capitol.
It’s part of the “Spike 150” which is Utah’s 150th-anniversary celebration of the driving of the golden spike at Promontory Summit.
The collection on display includes three out of the four last spikes used in the completion ceremony at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869.
Those three spikes are the Hewes Gold Spike, the Nevada Spike and the Arizona Spike.
