AMERICAN FORK CANYON, Utah (ABC4 News) – In an act of civic pride and in view of the government shutdown a deputy found a woman cleaning at the American Fork Canyon.

The woman who only wants to be known as Tanya was found shoveling snow, cleaning restrooms and picking up trash with her dog Jenna, officials said.

A deputy from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said he saw Tanya and her dog in more than a dozen picnic sites at the canyon.

When confronted by a deputy, Tanya said, “I have been inspired by posts on social media encouraging us to do our part in taking care of our parks, so I headed up American Fork Canyon, a place I spend a lot of time enjoying.”

She encouraged everyone to think of the areas they often love to visit and asked that they show their love by taking action in whatever way they can to keep those areas clean.

Tanya continued to say, “We are so blessed to live in an area that offers so many incredible places to explore and enjoy. Let’s do our part and show our appreciation.”
