Put a Vietnamese spin on your traditional burger for Memorial Day

There variety of burgers and fixins’ can be endless. For your Memorial Day grilling plans, what about putting a Vietnamese spin to the traditional burger will pickles or relish? Chef Evan Francois from Harmons, joined Nicea DeGering in the kitchen, to show us how to make a Banh Mi (pronounced bon me) burger.

Banh Mi Burger
Serve 4
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time 10 minutes

4 Bob’s burgers of choice
8 slices Gruyere cheese
4 Harmons challah buns
Salt and pepper
Kimchi (optional) or make your own pickled vegetables

Pickled Vegetables 
Serve 4
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes and cool overnight

1 English cucumber, sliced thin
½ bag matchstick carrots
1 red onion, sliced thin

Pickling Liquid:
1/4 cup salt 
2 cups rice wine vinegar
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar 
5 juniper berries 
1 tsp celery seeds 
2 tsp yellow mustard seeds 

In a medium pot, add all the ingredients and bring to a boil.  Bring the mixture back to room temperature and add the veggies. Place in the refrigerator overnight.
