PAYSON, Utah (ABC4 News)- Police in Payson arrested a man they say lied about his age to a 7th grade girl he met through mutual friends, then raped her when she visited him at his parent’s home in Payson.
According to charging documents, the Payson Police Department received a report that a 15-year-old girl had reported she had been raped in Payson around two years ago.
On Jan 31, 2019 the victim was interviewed at at the Children’s Justice Center in Provo where she disclosed that while she was in 7th grade, when she was 13 or 14, she was “kinda dating” a boy who told her he was 16 named Cordel Jeffs.
The victim said she met Jeffs through mutual friends.
According to charging documents, the teen said she skipped school one day to hang out with Jeffs at his parent’s house in Payson and once she was at the home, she and Jeffs went into a camping trailer that was parked along the roadway.
Documents further state she said when they were in the trailer they went into the bedroom and sat on the bed and began talking when Jeffs “forced himself” on her and kissed her neck and proceeded to remove her clothing even though she told him no and to stop.
She told police she started to cry and Jeffs would not stop or respond to her pleas for him to stop. She said he then raped her as she continued to beg him to stop, according to documents.
The victim said when Jeffs was done, he did not say anything to her and she got up, got dressed and left the trailer and walked to a park that was close by to get away.
Jeffs was booked into the Utah Count Jail on one count of first-degree felony rape of a child.
According to a records check of Jeffs, he is a convicted felon with multiple charges ranging from theft, burglary, obstruction of justice, assault and several charges of purchasing or selling tobacco to a minor.
