PROVO CANYON (ABC4 News) About 30 feet of snow and debris covered lanes of U.S-189 following an avalanche in Provo Canyon Thursday.

Utah Highway Patrol said the slide happened near mile marker 12. Troopers estimated the slide to be about 30 feet deep in some areas.

Utah Department of Transportation said as apart of its avalanche control efforts, crews intentionally triggered the avalanche. The road was closed when the avalanche was triggered, so no people or vehicles were caught in the slide.

The slide blocked all lanes of US-189. The canyon was re-opened Friday around 6:30 p.m.
