OGDEN, Utah (ABC4 News)- The snowstorm we have been waiting for is underway and local hardware stores say there is a rush for shovels and ice melt.
“I’m prepared. I have a nice snowblower and I’m ready to go,” Ace Hardware’s Mike Child said.
Child works at the Ogden store off Harrison Boulevard. He says a lot of his customers are still getting prepared for the storm.
“Every time there is a storm in the forecast, we get a little crazy and sell a lot of ice melt, a lot of shovels, winter supplies, and whatnot,” he added.
The canyons are a big concern during this storm.
Officials with the Utah Department of Transportation say crews are out de-icing and plowing highways along I-84, I-80, and I-15.
UDOT will shut down the Provo Canyon for avalanche control Tuesday afternoon in the same area an avalanche occurred last month.
State officials say those along the benches need to get ready to be blasted with snow. UDOT expects similar snowfalls along the benches as ski resorts.
They say folks who live on the valley floor should expect a couple inches on the roads Wednesday morning.
All of this makes things like shovels and snow melt a hot commodity throughout a storm.
Child adds, “It goes pretty quick. We go through about a pallet right before the storm or during the storm.”
