Possible Hepatitis A exposure at West Jordan 7-Eleven

Local News

WEST JORDAN (News4Utah) – The Salt Lake County Health Department is warning consumers about possible Hepatitis A exposure at a West Jordan 7-Eleven.

The possible exposure dates are between December 26 and January 3 at the store located at 2666 West and 7800 South. The possible exposure occurred when an infected employee worked while sick and handled certain items.

Any customers who consumed certain items such as fountain drink, fresh fruit or any item from the store’s hot food case or used the restroom between the above dates are being asked to call 385-468-4636 starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Any people who handled pre-packaged items or who already have the Hepatitis A vaccine do not need to call.

The health department states that, based on average sales volume for the store, up to 2,000 people may be affected, so you are asked to contact the health department as soon as possible.

The store is currently complying with the health department. The current exposure is only for this store.

“This is an important reminder to food service establishments that they should consider vaccinating their food-handling employees against hepatitis A,” said Gary Edwards, SLCoHD executive director. “It’s also important that food handlers be conscientious with hygiene, hand washing and not working when ill-and that managers be vigilant in enforcing those important requirements that help protect public health.”
