MAESER, Utah (ABC4 News)- A Uintah High School student was taken into custody Monday after police say he told fellow classmates that he had a gun.

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office says there is no threat to the school and the student did not have a gun.

Officials say the student announced to the classroom he was leaving the room and there was a gun in his backpack. As soon as he left the teacher immediately notified school administrators and a Uintah County sheriff’s deputy assigned to the high school found the student.

The student is under investigation.
