PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Pleasant Grove man was charged with multiple felonies after a girl came forward and said he had been sexually assaulting her since she was 11.

According to charging documents, a 12-year-old girl reported to her friends that she had been having sex with Ryan Kenneth Barney, 37.

Documents state during interviews with police, the girl reported that during the prior year, when she was 11, Barney had performed multiple sexual acts with her.

The victim reported the sexual assaults happened many times over the year and during the week of March 3 to March 9, 2019, Barney assaulted her every day, multiple times, according to documents.

The girl told police Barney made her feel bad about what would happen if she told anyone. When confronted by the girl’s mother, Barney admitted to sexually assaulting the girl, according to documents.

Barney was charged with five first-degree felony counts of rape of a child, five first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, five first-degree felony counts of sodomy of a child. Additionally, Barney was charged with failing to register as a sex offender.

In 2010, Barney pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two children in 2009. Court documents show Barney had been accused of sexually assaulting both a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year old girl.

Barney had originally been charged with two counts first-degree felony sex abuse of a child, but those charges were amended to four counts of misdemeanor sexual battery during a plea deal.

He was given 3 years of probation and a suspended sentence of 120 days in jail.
