Police provide updated information on death of Provo officer who died in line of duty

OREM, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Provo Police Officer has died after a shooting with a wanted fugitive in Orem Saturday night. 

Detective Nick Dupaix with Provo City police says they were called around 9:53 p.m. with information that a wanted fugitive would be at the Bed Bath and Beyond in Orem. Along with Orem officers, Provo officers also responded to the area. When police attempted to take the fugitive into custody, a shooting occurred and one of their officers was hit. 

The officer was taken to Utah Valley Hospital where he died from his injuries. 

Dupaix said they have taken a suspect into custody. There are no other suspects involved in the incident. 

The name of the officer has not been released pending a press conference in Provo around 2 p.m. on Sunday where they will be releasing more information about the officer and the incident.
