SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A 42-year-old Murray man was arrested Saturday after two women came forward and said he raped them at the same party in 2016.
According to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court, Richard Brian Renfeldt, was charged with two counts first-degree felony rape and two counts felony object rape last week.
A woman told police she was at a party with a small group of friends and everyone had been drinking, including Renfeldt. While at the party, the woman told police Renfeldt kept grabbing at her and coming onto her, and grabbed her breasts. Each time she told him no, and even slapped his hand away. She told Renfeldt if he did it again, she would throw him out and call police, according to documents.
The report further stated the victim said she started to feel intoxicated and the room started spinning. She remembered Renfeldt attempted to kiss her again, so she tried to run down the hallway when she was pulled into the bathroom by another woman at the party.
The woman in the bathroom told Renfeldt to leave the victim alone and then shut the door.
Documents state the victim then said she blacked out and when she came to, she was laying on the bathroom floor next to the other woman, who was also passed out. She said her clothes had been taken off and Rendfeldt was sexually assaulting both of them.
The victim said the other woman also woke up and told Renfeldt to stop, but then passed out again.
The second woman told police she passed out after drinking alcohol at the party. Documents state she too woke up, lying on a bed with Renfeldt on top of her raping her.
The woman pushed Renfeldt off her and he moved over to the other woman who was passed out lying next to her, according to charging documents.
The 2nd woman woke up, discovered she was naked on a bed with Renfeldt on top of her, raping her. She got him off her, grabbed her clothes and then told Renfedt to leave.
A witness at the party told police she was at the same party and noticed Renfeldt was being “very grabby” with the 1st victim in this case. The witness described observing the victim telling Renfeldt to stop, but he continued to grab her breasts and tried to kiss her. The witness said she then left the party.
Both victims told police they never gave permission to having sex with Renfeldt and never told him it was okay.
Renfeldt was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. His bail has been set at $150,000.
A records search in Utah for Renfeldt did not show he has a criminal history here.
