PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (ABC4 News) — Police arrested a mother Saturday after she allegedly choked her adult disabled son while screaming she wanted him to die.

Police were called to a hotel on a report of a mother who had thrown pair of scissors at one child and had abused her mentally disabled son.

Records indicate when officers arrived, they found several red marks on the son’s body. Because he is not able to talk, police interviewed the mother about the incident.

According to arresting documents, 42-year-old Gidget Quilter choked her 21-year-old son who she said has a severe form of autism called Langergiddeon Syndrome.

Quilter told police he defecated and threw feces all over his room, so she restrained him by using a move called a “basket hold” where she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him to the floor.

Police obtained an audio recording of the incident from one of Quilter’s children. They said you could hear the statement, “Die you-die you little…” and two other voices saying “Stop-Mom stop!” Quilter indicated the recording was when she was restraining her son in a “basket hold.”

Police interviewed two of Quilter’s teen children who reportedly pulled their mother off of their brother. The teen girl told police her mother grabbed the boy by the front of his throat with one hand and with her other hand, grabbed the back of his head and pushed him to the ground.

The girl said her brother could not breath or scream, so she and her younger brother pulled her off.

Reports state this incident occurred in the presence of six children ages 2, 7, 7, 13, 14 and 17.

Quilter got out of jail on Sunday and checked in to a Pleasant Grove hotel, as the couple is currently homeless. Police said Quilter attempted to persuade her teen daughter that the recording was a “misperception” and she needed a doctor not the police or jail, documents state.

The children have been placed with family members and the disabled son is being taken to Texas to live with his older brother.

Quilter faces third-degree felony tampering with a witness, third-degree felony aggravated assault and six charges of domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Police have requested a pre-trial protection order be issued by the court barring Quilter from having contact with any of her children.
