Police: Man taken in custody after head-butting an officer

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man was taken into custody after assaulting a police officer during an arrest on Friday evening, according to authorities. 

Police say they responded to reports of a suspicious person with a knife near 724 East and 2100 South at 5:02 p.m. 

According to arresting documents, 28-year-old Joshua Funk head-butted an officer while they were trying to arrest him.

Officers say there was a short struggle after that but they were able to detain Funk and take him into custody. No officers were seriously injured in the process. 

Funk was booked into jail for assault on a police officer, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
