Police investigating homicide at Kearns Olympic Oval

KEARNS, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police are investigating after finding a 20-year-old man dead of an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot at the Olympic Oval in Kearns Saturday night.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said the shooting occurred at about 11:20 p.m. at the Olympic Oval located at 5662 S. Cougar Lane.

The man, identified as Joshua Belen, was was lying on the grass deceased when officers arrived. 

Belen did not have any stable residence but was known to attend The Point Church in Kearns. 

Hansen said Belen has a misdemeanor criminal record but nothing too serious.

Detectives are trying to backtrack Belen’s last steps to try and determine what happened. They do not know who all was involved.

Friends have planned a vigil Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Kearns Recreation Center.
