Police identify victim in Orem shooting; suspect still at large

OREM, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police are looking for the suspect responsible for the death of a man in a shooting in Orem Thursday.

Police said they received a call about a shooting at the Parkway Loft apartments at 1225 West 1000 South around 8 p.m. The apartments are situated just south of a Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner Station. 

When officers arrived, they found one adult male victim with an “obvious gunshot wound.” He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead Friday morning.

Friday afternoon he was identified as 26-year-old Dominique Barnett. 

Police say a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect identified as 19-year-old Elbert Paule.

Paule was last seen wearing yellow sweat pants and a dark sweatshirt. 

Police believe Paule and victim know each other, but they don’t yet know the exact nature of their relationship. 

Investigators said a weapon was found. 

The Utah Valley University campus community was notified about the shooting via mobile alerts around 8:50 p.m. Students, staff and Orem residents were instructed to shelter-in-place and avoid the area while police search for the suspect, but that shelter-in-place has since been lifted.
