Police: Five men arrested for enticing minors over the internet during undercover sting

WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Multiple men were arrested for allegedly enticing minors over the internet during an undercover sting operation in Weber County. 

According to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, the sting was conducted on March 26., where undercover officers conducted a sting operation using various online social media applications to locate and identify suspects who use the internet to agree to meet minors under the age of 14 for sexual activity.

During the operation, five men were arrested and charged with second-degree felony enticing a minor over the internet.

Those arrested were identified as Randall Nelson, 30, of Clinton, Gerardo Medina, 25, of Clearfield, William Davis, 56, of Ogden, Rumaldo Duran, 26, of Ogden and Cameron Sandoval, 25, of Roy who was additionally charged with dealing harmful material, a third-degree felony. 

This operation lasted several hours but deputies said it was a huge success.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind parents and guardians of children with cellphones to remain vigilant of the various social media sites available.

“Predators will manipulate their information posing as someone they may not be in attempts to entice potential victims,” said on the department’s Facebook page. 

Agencies that assisted the Weber County Sheriff’s Office with the sting were Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Davis County Attorney’s Office, Roy City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Layton City Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Utah Department of Public Safety/State Bureau of Investigations, Syracuse City Police Department, Tooele City Police Department, Weber County Attorney’s Office, West Valley City Police Department, and the Ogden City Police Area Tactical Analysis Center.
