Police: Female jogger attacked at Sandy park

SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) – Sandy police searching for a suspect after a woman was sexually assaulted near Dimple Dell Park Monday.

The attack happened near Dimple Dell Gully approximately 10195 South 320 East. Police say around 1 p.m. a woman in her 40s was out for run on the path when the suspect grabbed her, pulled her down into a ravine just off the trail and sexually assaulted her.

“This is an extremely brazen act. This was at 1 o’clock in the afternoon and this park and this footpath is extremely busy. There’s a lot of joggers that utilize this, there’s bicyclists, there’s even horse enthusiasts that utilize this area all day long,” said Sgt. Jason Neilson with Sandy City Police Department.

The victim was taken to the hospital where she is reported to be in fair condition. Police say she was able to give a very detailed description of her attacker.

  • About 6 feet tall with a thin build
  • Wearing a black beanie with a yellow fish skeleton on it, a plaid shirt or jacket and black white checkered Vans style shoes

The suspect is estimated to about 20 years old. Investigators gathered physical evidence at the scene and now they’re looking for any surveillance video that may show the suspect arriving or leaving the area which is right next to the TRAX blue line.
