WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – The dad of a 13-year-old boy said he walked in on a 25-year old man sexually abusing his son.
According to arresting documents, police were notified by a man that on April 22, shortly after midnight, he walked into his son’s room and found Michael Steven King sexually abusing him.
During an interview with police, the boy said he has been “having sex” with the man almost every day since October 2018 at various locations in Salt Lake County. When it started, the boy was 12.
A week later, after a protective order was in place, police said King reached out to the boy multiple times on a gaming server called Roblox, asking him not to tell police.
King was booked into jail on five counts first-degree felony sodomy of a child, two second-degree felony counts sex abuse of a child and one third-degree felony tampering with a witness.
His bail has been set at $1,000.000.00
*CLARIFICATION* ABC4 contacted the district attorney’s office for clarification of the man’s charges.
Sim Gill, District Attorney for Salt Lake County explained they charged King with the highest charge they could based on the factual evidence.
The boy is not of consenting age and first degree felony sodomy is classified in the judicial system the same as rape.
Gill said each of the first-degree felony charges King faces carries 25-years-to-life in prison.
