Police: Driver admits to intentionally hitting girl and tells victim “We all have to die sometime”.

Draper, Utah (ABC4 News)  A driver who police say intentionally ran down an 11-year-old girl on a moped in Draper on Friday said he did it because “she was white”.

Charging documents say 19-year-old Steven Becky was driving a 2010 VW Jetta down the wrong side of Winged Bluff Lane in Suncrest Friday morning when he suddenly veered at the girl, striking her with the left front bumper before rolling the car upside down on its roof.

The impact of the crash threw the girl into the front yard of an adjacent home.

A witness told police after hitting the girl, Becky exited the overturned car, aggressively approached the girl and stated “we all have to die sometime”. Police say Becky then tried to leave the scene, but the witness restrained him until police arrived.  Police also state while interviewing Becky, he admitted to using Xanax and marijuana.

The 11-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, including a fractured hip and head. Becky was taken to the hospital before being booked into the Utah County Jail.

Steven Becky is charged with Attempted Murder and DUI.

Police the entire incident was caught on a neighbor’s home security camera.
