Police: Bountiful man high on meth in stolen car hits one officer, nearly misses three others

PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) – A Bountiful man was arrested after authorities say he struck an officer and nearly missed three others while attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle. 

Arresting documents state officers responded to a call from a citizen of a suspicious vehicle. While officers were speaking with the driver, identified as 35-year-old Jeffrey Sudweeks, he started to drive away, striking one of the officers and nearly hitting three others. 

Sudweeks then struck a building before hitting the police vehicle a second time. Police say Sudweeks then lead officers on a pursuit where he nearly hit multiple vehicles and broke numerous traffic laws before eventually stopping.

He allegedly admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine.

The vehicle turned out to be stolen out of Pleasant Grove and Sudweeks had multiple warrants and gave false information to officers.

He was booked into the Utah County Jail on three counts of misdemeanor criminal mischief, one count each of failure to remain at the scene of an accident, speeding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, DUI, interfering with arresting officer and giving false information to an officer. He is also facing five felony counts of aggravated assault and one count of failure to stop or respond to the command of an officer.

His warrants included charges for possession of a controlled substance, issuing a fraudulent check, and unlawful possession of a financial card. 

Additional charges could be filed through the Utah County Attorney’s Office.
