SANDY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police say a woman turned herself in after police found her mother with multiple stab wounds at a hotel Saturday afternoon.
Sandy City Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said they were called to the Extended Stay Hotel at 7555 S. Union Park Ave around 2 p.m.
When they arrived, they found the woman with stab wounds to her chest, next arm and hand and face. The woman told police her daughter, Jayde Altemeier is the one who stabbed her, documents state.
According to charging documents, the woman knew her daughter was suicidal and homicidal prior to the incident.
While at the hotel, her daughter came into her room and attacked her with a knife. Three of the stab wounds were in locations that could have killed the woman, documents state.
Altemeier left prior to police arrival, but later went into an Olive Garden restaurant in American Fork and made the statement that she had stabbed her mother, documents further stated.
Nielsen said the daughter turned herself in shortly after the incident and has been taken into custody. There was blood on Jayde’s clothing when she was taken into custody.
The mother was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but officials say she is now in stable condition and expected to survive.
Altemeier was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on 2nd degree felony attempted murder and 2nd degree aggravated assault. Her bail was set at $500,000.
*The hotel address is identified through the USPS as a Midvale address, however, dispatch explained to ABC4 the hotel is just barely inside the Sandy City limits.
