UTAH (ABC4 News) – By October 1, 2020, Utahns will need to have a gold star on their ID’s or driver licenses in order to be able to travel or enter a secure federal facility.
The Department of Public Safety is calling it the “Real ID.”
The new “Real ID” is a driver license or a or non-driver identification card marked with a star in the top right corner to make it compliant for federal identification.
It will also be required in order to board an airplane for domestic flights. Officials said your current driver license will be accepted until October 1, 2020.
If your driver license or non-driver ID card expires before October 1, authorities say you can wait until your renewal to switch to the “Real ID.”
However, if your renewal falls after the deadline for the change then you will have to switch as soon as possible.
They also encourage that residents make sure their address on the ID card matches what is at the post office so that the renewed ID is not returned to the Driver License Division.
