Pipe falls, crushes construction worker in Sandy

SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) A construction worker died Friday afternoon after an industrial accident in Sandy.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. near 11450 South 1000 East.

Sandy police say a 46-year-old man was in a trench dug for sewage piping.   Other crew members were lowering a large pipe into the trench.

There was an equipment malfunction and the pipe fell and crushed the man underneath.

Other workers at the site were able lift the pipe off the man and they rushed to perform life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

Man in his 40s was killed in an industrial accident in Sandy Friday, March 9, 2018. 

The victim was identified as Russell D. Andrews of Salt Lake City. He was an employee of Black Rock Development Group.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) officials responded to the scene. The investigation into exactly what happened is ongoing, police say.
