Pilot survives plane crash near Hardware Ranch

Local News

CACHE COUNTY (News4Utah)- Officials in Cache County say one person was injured in a plane crash Thursday morning.

The plane was located four miles east of Hardware Ranch.

Hardware Ranch is owned by the state of Utah and managed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. It is located in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, about 15 miles east of Hyrum.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said another plane in the area saw the plane go down and reported.

“He probably saved his life no matter what his injuries are,” Sheriff Jensen said.

He says Life Flight was the first team on scene. They were able to transport the 40-year-old pilot before police arrived, he said.

“The fact that he was able to report it and we were able to dispatch Life Flight without even being on scene and have them there as fast as they could respond, that’s incredible,” Sheriff Jensen said.

Sheriff Jensen said the pilot is expected to survive injuries to his face, arms and legs. He is being treated at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden.

“It’s horrible that the guy was in a crash and his plane is totaled. As of right now, what I know is that he is alive and going to survive.”

Investigators haven’t determined where the plane took of and where it was headed. The FAA is taking over the investigation.
