Person of interest identified in Salt Lake City carjacking

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Police identified a man wanted in connection with a carjacking in Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City police named Derek Orr, 29, as a person of interest after they said a van was stolen with a small child inside on May 16. The child was found safe a short time later, but the suspect fled the scene. 

Investigators were looking for a stolen gray 2001 Honda Odyssey with UT plate W054VG in connection with the case.

Detective Greg Wilking of the Salt Lake Police Department reported the van associated with the carjacking was found Tuesday afternoon. The van was found in the parking lot of a Wells Fargo Bank near 1300 East and 300 South.

Police said the van appears to have been dumped there and had been there for a few days. There were no signs of the suspect.

Police said they are still looking for the suspect.
