People camp out ahead of Pioneer Day parade

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – On Monday night, hundreds of empty chairs lined So. Temple — and dozens of people were equipped with sleeping bags to spend the night.

After all, they wanted amazing views for the Pioneer Day Parade.

“This is tradition — it’s what we do,” said Shannon Clarke, who flew in from Georgia to camp out the night before the parade.

She was surrounded by friends and family Monday night in a prime spot — close to the parade’s starting point, and also under the shade of a nearby tree.

On Tuesday, the parade begins at 9 a.m.
