MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 News) – Parents of two young children have been arrested for child abuse after a doctor raised concerns about their malnourishment.
Lt. Brian Lohrke, Unified Police Department, said they have been working with the US Marshals Service on a child abuse case involving Andrea Kendrick, 26, and Antoine Scott, 27. The two came under suspicion they were starving their two children (both under the age of two) in September 2017 after a wellness check-up when malnourishment and neglect concerns were raised by a physician.
The parents ignored the physician’s recommendation to immediately take the two children to Primary Children’s Hospital and when the physician discovered the children had not been taken to the hospital, he called authorities.
DCFS and law enforcement arrived at the home and took the children into custody. The children are now being medically treated and are recovering from their malnourished state.
After an investigation, the couple was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on felony child abuse charges.
