Paper bales catch fire outside of Rocky Mountain Recycling facility

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- Crews worked to put out a fire at the Rocky Mountain Recycling plant in Salt Lake City.

The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. at the located near the airport at 2950 West 900 South.

Capt. Marlowe with the Salt Lake City Fire Department said the fire started in a pile of paper bales and cardboard outside of the plant.

Marlowe said firefighters were able to mostly keep the flames away from the inside the building. They were also able to keep it from spreading to a nearby diesel and propane tank.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but investigators believe it to be accidental. 

Crews asked drivers to stay off of 900 South between 2800 West and 3000 West. Firefighters were on scene throughout the night making sure the fire was completely out.
