Organ donation awareness fair held at UVU

Local News

OREM, Utah (News4Utah) Utah Valley University wants you to “check yes” for organ, tissue and eye donation.

The university partnered with “Yes Utah” and other local medical organizations today to host an “awareness fair.”

Approximately every 10 minutes, a patient is added to the national organ transplant waiting list.

In Utah alone, there are around 800 people waiting to receive a transplant. One of those who received a transplant and was at Tuesday’s fair is current UVU student Carson Strachan.

“Receiving a transplant gives you another chance at life. For me it was really beneficial because I was 20 at the time. I haven’t had a chance to fully live out life, I haven’t had kids, I wasn’t married at the time, and that’s given me the benefit of having the opportunity to do extra and give back to my community,” said Strachan.

2017 was a record breaking year for transplants in Utah. Intermountain Medical Center performed 172 transplant surgeries.
