OREM, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- It is no secret social media is powerful. The Orem Police Department recognizes this and frequently uses Facebook to track down wanted suspects. The method proved successful once again for them Wednesday night.
The department posts a weekly “Tattle Tale Tuesday (TTT)” where they ask the public to send in any tips on different suspects. This time they had a suspect that “couldn’t wait for Tuesday”.Wednesday night they asked the public to help them track down a man who they say entered a gun store and stole two handguns and some ammo.
“We would like to get said guns off of the streets sooner rather than later. So we are assigning this case to our FB Detectives,” the post said.
As a special incentive the department said whoever identified the suspect would “get a bag of Chicharrones, a case of Tab and an official Orem PD decoder ring (but really, how bout a OPD #T-shirt)!”.
Well it worked. They say “literally an hour after [their] post” someone called with a tip and they arrested the burglar. Their advice? “Keep your rage in a cage, if it’s not yours don’t touch it, eat it don’t tweet it, hugs not drugs and as always……..#thesepantsarentmine.”
