SARDINE CANYON, Utah (ABC4 News) – An elderly woman is dead, and two others were injured after a head-on crash in Sardine Canyon Tuesday afternoon.
Utah Highway Patrol said they responded to the crash on SR-91 in an area known as Dry Lake.
Witnesses told troopers that a 2014 silver Chevy Silverado crossed the median at the summit and was traveling northbound in the first southbound lane of travel.
Another witness also said that he swerved to the right into the second lane and narrowly avoided the crash. He said as he looked in his mirror, he saw the pickup truck hit a black 2014 Toyota Sienna SUV.
Troopers said that the 32-year-old male driver of the Toyota SUV had to be extricated and was transported to the Logan Regional Hospital in good condition.
They said the heart of the 87-year-old female passenger of the Chevy pick-up truck heart stopped initially. After CPR was performed by medical personnel she regained a pulse and officials say they continued care while she was flown to Ogden Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The 88-year-old male driver of the Chevy truck was taken to Logan Regional Hospital also in good condition, according to authorities.
Investigators said they suspect fatigue or a medical condition as the cause of this crash. The identity of the woman who died following the crash has not yet been released.
Sardine Canyon was closed for a few hours as officials cleared and investigated the crash, but it has since reopened.
