SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) – One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Sunday night in Salt Lake.
Police say around 10:17 p.m., officers stopped, Patrick Harmon, 50, who was walking down the South State Street, when he suddenly pulled out a weapon. Sgt. Brandon Shearer with SLCPD said the officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but fired when Harmon would not drop the weapon.
Police tried to save him, but he died on the way to the hospital.
Police say the officers were attempting to stop Harmon once they realized he had multiple warrants out for his arrest.
Unified Police will handle the investigation, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
The officer that fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave, police said. He has been with the department for more than a year and is a longtime police officer, Shearer said.
