SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) — It’s not a new issue, but dads of infants and toddlers have a big problem when they go out in public. There are no changing rooms in men’s bathrooms.
At least, they are few and far between. One Florida dad is trying to start a movement and it seems to be taking off on social media.
A father of three recently posted on Instagram, a picture of him in a men’s bathroom changing his son’s diaper using #squatforchange and #fatherslivesmatter.
Since then, dads have been sending pictures in support of squat for change, posting their pictures of similar problems, even fathers around the globe are calling for change.
News4Utah went in search of changing tables in men’s bathrooms in the Salt Lake Valley.
Our first few stops, a fast food chain, Starbucks and Jimmy Johns.
No luck, But we did find one inside a men’s bathroom at a Chuck E Cheese.
Next, we headed to the Salt Lake City International Airport. There were no changing table in the men’s bathroom. However, there are family bathrooms where there are changing tables in the terminals.
Airport officials gave us a sneak peek and sent pictures of the men’s bathrooms in the new airport with the sought after amenities in the men’s bathroom come 2020.
Our last stop was the State Capitol. And sure enough, they had them!
One dad walks out and seemed impressed.
“There is a 5 star, like a granite top with railings. I actually like it. I would change diapers on the ground or somewhere outside. It gets me out of changing the diaper though.”
